Submissions

Kia ora,

Bateman Books publishes a select range of high-quality books, specialising in illustrated non-fiction, commercial fiction and children’s/YA books.

We are open for submissions (excluding poetry)  in July.

Any submissions received outside July will not be considered unless they come through a literary agent or are from our published authors.

Please include the following in your submission:

• Synopsis of the book
• Its intended market
• Some background information about yourself and your writing experience
• One or two sample chapters, or the whole MS if it’s a picture book.
• For children’s picture books, please include illustrations or an idea of illustrators you like the style of.

Please note the books we publish must have some connection to Aotearoa New Zealand, whether it’s theme, content, setting or author.

All manuscripts will be considered by the in-house publishing team, and you will be contacted within about twelve weeks with a decision or progress report, but please bear with us if we take longer.
