Author Bio

An award-winning Māori and Pasifika storyteller based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Auckland, Qiane is most recognised for her powerful voice and cultural leadership. She writes to honour the knowledge and stories of wāhine. Her book NUKU: Stories of 100 Indigenous Women was shortlisted for the Booksellers Aotearoa New Zealand Award for Illustrated Non-Fiction in the 2022 Ockham New Zealand Book Awards. Her most recent children’s book Ngā Kupenga a Nanny Rina / Nanny Rina’s Amazing Nets won a 2024 Storylines Notable Book Award (te reo Māori) and is shortlisted in the 2025 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults.
