Reviews

Mikey Bell weaves a story through life and food, showing how the two are always interconnected - even if we don't know it at the time. Meaningful food doesn't mean being a Michelin-starred chef - sometimes it's as simple as boiling an egg! How an Egg Changed My Life is for those of us living an ordinary life - and finding the joy in that; a slice of Welsh life; and the kind of LGBTQ+ story that hinges on hope and family of all kinds. And from a perfect dippy egg to a risotto to impress a date or a cake worthy of a last meal, Mikey's recipes have it all. -- Emily Garside * Emily Garside * Dippy eggs, Aqua lyrics, Welsh cakes, The Sims and family cawl: Mikey Bell turns the ingredients of millennial life into a moving memoir of queer becoming, breakdown and rediscovery. Funny, tender and full of heart, How an Egg Changed My Life traces a journey from the awkwardness of hiding and the ache of shame, to the unexpected places where hope returns. -- Gareth Evans-Jones * Gareth Evans-Jones *
