Description

In a 2030 sleep trial, a woman's consciousness bonds with a boy in 1825 England, and follows him into adulthood as George Grey, the governor of colonial New Zealand.

Mercedes Grace goes to sleep in a London lab in 2030 and
wakes up in 1825, her subconscious nestled in the head of a highly intelligent
boy who has run away from school. George believes she is a spirit
or a muse; Mercedes insists she is a time-travelling mother from London. As the
sleep trial continues, she returns to George at key points in his life to
witness his development from an impulsive boy into an upright and ambitious
young army officer and global adventurer.

As their connection becomes more complex, Mercedes witnesses
the emergence of an autocratic and imperious leader. For he is none other than George
Grey, governor of the newly colonised New Zealand. Mercedes learns his story,
motivations and justifications for his actions in real time, walking with him
through his extraordinary life.
