Becky Manawatu’s ‘Auē’ wins top prize at Ockham Book Awards!

Bateman Books are over the moon that Becky Manawatu’s ‘Auē’ took out two prizes in the Ockham New Zealand Book awards.

‘Aue’ won the MitoQ Best First Book Award for Fiction and was awarded as the winner of the prestigious Jann Medlicott Acorn Prize for Fiction!

In the words of Tara June Winch, one of the international co-judges of the Ockhams, “There is something so assured and flawless in the delivery of the writing voice that is almost like acid on the skin.”

‘Aue’ has a uniquely New Zealand voice, one which gives the reader a closer look into the minds of children and young men. The story holds within it moments of incredible forgiveness and love.

We are the proud distributors of this incredible novel to readers and bookstores throughout New Zealand. We look forward to seeing the continued success of ‘Auē’ and want to congratulate Becky Manawatu on her amazing achievement.
